Artifex - Massage Therapy

     Massage therapy has many benefits and can help with a variety of health problems including injury, arthritis, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, digestive disorders, chronic pain, and the list goes on. A massage could be just the thing you need to help you relax before getting tattooed., or a special treat for yourself while waiting for a friend who is getting tattooed. We have New York State licensed massage therapist, Susan Barker, on staff at Artifex. Getting a massage is the ultimate stress reliever and regular massage treatments have been scientifically proven to help improve overall health.

     Susie offers many different styles of massage therapy. Many people like to get a basic Swedish style massage which is excellent for general relaxation. If you have a specific injury or site of chronic pain, then a sports massage, deep tissue massage, or medical massage might be for you. A pregnancy massage can be a godsend for women suffering from aches and pains associated with childbearing. You can also try trigger point therapy, reflexology, shiatsu, connective tissue massage, hot stone massage or raindrop therapy. Susie uses essential oils and heat packs for most massages. The heat relaxes your muscles for optimum benefit.

     Raindrop therapy is a technique where essential oils are applied to the spine in little droplets and then massaged into the skin. Heat packs are placed on the back to aid the absorption of the oils while the feet are massaged. Susie specializes in raindrop therapy, among other massage styles. Basic raindrop sessions last one hour. Sessions including a full massage are 90 minutes.

     Susie holds an A.A.S. degree from SUNY Morrisville and is a member if the International Massage Association. She has been a massage therapist since 2003. Susie received certification in CranioSacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute in the fall of 2006 and completed her second level training in the fall of 2007.
